The billing error affected 25,000 beneficiaries under Humana’s Tricare East region contract, which covers military personnel. Military.com estimates members were incorrectly billed anywhere from $4,000 to $110,000 by Humana. Some beneficiaries said their credit card companies blocked the charge, while others using checking accounts may have faced overdraft fees and emptied savings.
Humana said it is working with banks to resolve any fees and block charges caused by the error.
“We are working directly with banks to reverse charges before they occur,” Humana spokesperson Mark Mathis told Military.com. “We pledge that we will do everything we can to ensure that beneficiaries are not adversely affected by this error, including covering overdraft and related fees.”
