Here are five things to know about Dr. DeShazer.
1. As a member of the health plan’s senior executive team, Dr. DeShazer will report to Deb Rice-Johnson, president of Highmark, and devise the company’s clinical strategy.
2. He is board-certified in internal medicine and has 30 years of clinical and managerial experience.
3. Prior to Highmark, Dr. DeShazer served as Illinois medical director for Louisville, Ky.-based Humana; vice president of medical informatics, quality and transformation at Madison, Wis.-based Dean Health System; and chief quality officer of Tampa, Fla.-based BayCare Health System.
4. Dr. DeShazer also served in a number of administrative positions at Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente until 2008.
5. Before Kaiser, Dr. DeShazer was an attending physician at Chicago-based Cook County Hospital from 1987 to 1991.
