Highmark, Lehigh Valley Health Network collaborate for health plan

Health insurer Highmark Blue Shield and Lehigh Valley Health Network teamed up for a health insurance plan to decrease employer healthcare costs and improve patient care management.

Employers and individuals can enroll in the plan — Lehigh Valley Flex Blue — and receive coverage beginning Jan. 1. Under the plan, Allentown, Pa.-based LVHN will share data, resources and information with Pittsburgh-based Highmark to ensure patients receive necessary preventive services without duplication.

Launched in Lehigh, Northampton and Schuylkill counties, the plan will also provide members access to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton (Pa.), East Stroudsburg, Pa.-based Pocono Health System and hospitals in Luzerne County. In addition, members will gain access to Highmark and Blue Card's network, which covers 92 percent of physicians and 96 percent of hospitals in the U.S.
