Pittsburgh-based Highmark has launched its Highmark Cancer Collaborative in the state of Pennsylvania.
The collaborative — a partnership between Highmark, Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute and Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center — seeks to implement treatment pathways, improve provider reimbursement methods and eliminate administrative problems that could limit patients' access to care. In addition, the Highmark Cancer Collaborative gives patients with complex cancers access to Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.
The Highmark Cancer Collaborative, which utilizes the National Comprehensive Cancer Network's guidelines, hopes to eventually expand its reach to other Highmark markets.
