A collaborative effort between Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health Plan and technology solutions company Cognizant has led the insurer to be one of the first to comply with CMS' new interoperability mandate.
In an Aug. 18 announcement, the duo said the interoperability compliance was an extension of their long-standing partnership, which has been in effect since 2015.
The new compliance uses a software-as-a-service solution to allow government program members to access their healthcare information digitally.
"Ensuring compliance with CMS regulations is both crucial to our government relationships as well as for our members," said Kurt Wrobel, president of Geisinger Health Plan and executive vice president of insurance operations. "Our members expect a secure, seamless experience when accessing and using their personal health data. Our work with Cognizant has been an integral part of fulfilling our members' needs and expectations."
