Former Aetna CEO joins telehealth startup board

John Rowe, MD, former president and chair at Aetna, joined family caregiver telehealth startup eFamilyCare as a director and investor.

EFamilyCare aims to reduce hospital admissions and improve patient outcomes by providing family caregivers with support from professional care advisers, according to a Jan. 20 news release. Family caregivers who receive coaching and insight into care decisions reduce hospital admissions by 25 percent at 90 days.

"Loved ones who choose to care for their family members are a critical link in the continuum of care, and I'm proud to support eFamilyCare as it addresses this underserved community," Dr. Rowe said. "Together, we hope to balance personal touch with condition-specific technology, so that family caregivers are more empowered and feel less anxiety, which will lead to improved patient outcomes."

Dr. Rowe will form and lead eFamilyCare's Professional Advisory Committee, which gathers insights from professional caregivers to help guide the company's approach.
