Fitch: UnitedHealth's Optum a 'favorable' differentiator from other insurers

Fitch Ratings affirmed UnitedHealth Group's "AA-" insurer financial strength ratings due to the payer's strong financial performance, strong capitalization and leverage profile.

Fitch Ratings pointed to UnitedHealth's Optum arm as a key differentiator of UnitedHealth from peer insurers.

"The company's business profile benefits from great scale and diversity and significant cash flows derived from its Optum subsidiaries, which are generally less heavily regulated than those of health insurers," according to Fitch Ratings.

The agency said UnitedHealth's rating outlook is stable.
