Deadline to apply for 2019 navigator funding is July 22

Hospitals have until July 22 to apply for CMS navigator funding to help patients enroll in health plans on the federal ACA exchanges, according to CMS.

CMS plans to allocate at least $100,000 in funding to each state that participates in the federal exchange, according to an announcement from the American Hospital Association. The 34 participating states will receive funding based on the size of their remaining uninsured population.

Under the Trump administration, the total federal navigator fund is $10 million for 2019. That's down significantly from 2016, when CMS provided $63 million in grants to nearly 100 navigators.

For hospitals to receive part of the funding for a second 12-month period, they must meet all navigator program requirements. The funding for a second year-long period will also be contingent on availability.
