CMS approves Maryland's Medicaid waiver: 3 things to know

CMS gave Maryland the OK to amend its Medicaid program beginning March 18 through Dec. 31, 2021.

Three things to know:

1. Under a section 1115 Social Security Act amendment, the Maryland HealthChoice Medicaid program will include more funding for family planning services for women who are not eligible for other federal healthcare programs.

2. The waiver also will allow Maryland to test different initiatives for beneficiaries, including a substance misuse treatment program and an adult dental pilot.

3. In addition, Maryland will test its HealthChoice Diabetes Prevention Program. The program will roll out prevention initiatives for Medicaid beneficiaries between age 18 and 64 who have prediabetes or are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
