Christus Good Shepherd, BCBS extend contract 1 month amid dispute

Longview, Texas-based Christus Good Shepherd Health System and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will push back a deadline to negotiate a new contract one month, the Longview News-Journal reports.

Christus Good Shepherd and BCBST are extending their deadline until June 1 for the payer's Blue Choice Preferred Provider Program. The original deadline was May 1.

"We are still at the table exchanging proposals," BCBST spokesperson James Campbell told the Longview News-Journal. "We are making progress."

In a statement to the publication, Christus Good Shepherd spokesperson William Knous said, "Christus Good Shepherd accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), and we fully intend to continue, just as we have done for decades. We are in negotiations with BCBSTX with a deadline of June 1; due to confidentiality requirements, we are unable to discuss details of ongoing negotiations."
