Here are four things to know about U.S. health insurance coverage, according to the most recent National Health Interview Survey results.
1. While the 9 percent uninsured rate isn’t significantly different than from a year prior, 19.7 million fewer Americans were uninsured at the time of the interview than in 2010.
2. Among adults aged 18 to 64, 12.7 percent were uninsured; 19.5 percent had public insurance; and 69.3 percent had private health plans in the first nine months of 2017.
3. In 2016, 39.4 percent of individuals with private coverage had a high-deductible health plan. This increased to 43.2 percent in the first nine months of 2017, data reveal.
4. Of the 69.3 percent covered by private health plans during the first nine months of 2017, 4.4 percent (8.6 million) had insurance through the federal health insurance marketplace or state-based exchanges.
