BCBS of South Carolina to lay off 244 employees

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is letting go 244 workers after losing a Veterans Administration Choice contract, according to The Post and Courier.

The cuts, which affect employees across BCBS of South Carolina's two PGBA offices, went into effect Nov. 7. Affected jobs include roles for claims processing, contract center services, data management and web systems integration.

A BCBS of South Carolina spokesperson told The Post and Courier that affected employees could be offered other opportunities at the offices as the health insurer pursues alternative government contracts.

"We're very encouraged and optimistic that we will have more work. We certainly encourage and support our employees to look at BlueCross and its other companies for opportunities," the spokesperson said.
