The partnership is included in a four-year contract between the state and the payer signed June 2021, according to a news release. The contract includes an optional extension that gives Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota the opportunity to serve those covered under the expansion.
“BCBSND is honored to partner with the DHS to administer benefits for members of the Medicaid Expansion program,” Dan Conrad, president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. “Health care costs continue to grow, and we have a responsibility to ensure long-term sustainability of the Medicaid Expansion program for the state.”
The program provides coverage to adults under 65 years old with incomes below 138 percent of the federal poverty level. It was previously administered by Sanford Health Plan before Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota took it over.
