BCBS of North Carolina extends telehealth policy after 7,500% jump in use

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is keeping its telehealth coverage policy after witnessing a 7,500 percent increase in its utilization in 2020.

The policy, which covers telehealth visits like in-person care, was extended through March 31, 2022, according to The Robesonian

The move applies to all commercial and Medicare Advantage plans but does not apply to members getting out-of-state care.

"If we've learned anything during the pandemic, there is a significant patient demand for primary and behavioral health telehealth services, which may be the best areas to drive innovation that will improve outcomes, affordability and access for members and patients," Roberta Capp, MD, CMO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, told The Robesonian.
