BCBS of Nebraska to cover minimally invasive joint fusion

Health insurer Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska will cover minimally invasive sacroiliac joint fusion using San Jose, Calif.-based SI Bone's device indicated for fusion for certain disorders of the joint.

The Omaha, Neb.-based insurer follows BCBS of Michigan in covering the minimally invasive SI joint fusion using SI Bone's iFuse device. The decision to cover the procedure was based on review of clinical literature scientifically validating iFuse's use in the treatment of back pain.

Coverage was extended to 700,000 policyholders.
