Organizations who own public space can now apply for a $50,000 grant from the companies to build a fitness court, according to a Nov. 18 news release. The two companies will then collaborate on planning, funding and launching the courts.
Each court will have 30 pieces of equipment that can be used in a variety of ways. They can also be paired with an app for free guided workouts.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts said the courts are part of its $16 million commitment to addressing social determinants of health.
“Blue Cross is committed to helping people live healthy lives and eliminating the physical and social barriers that lead to health disparities,” said Jeff Bellows, vice president of corporate citizenship and public affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. “We’re proud to partner with NFC to build fitness courts across the commonwealth to provide a communal gathering space and equitable access to premier free outdoor fitness opportunities.”
