BCBS of Massachusetts CEO to depart after 12 years

Andrew Dreyfus, president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, will resign at the end of 2022 after 12 years at the helm.

The insurer's board of directors will begin to search for his successor immediately, according to a Jan. 20 news release.

Dorothy Puhy, chair of the payer's board of directors, said Mr. Dreyfus' commitment to workplace diversity and inclusion was a "hallmark of his tenure."

"Throughout his long career, Andrew has been at the heart of every major reform movement in health care, from expanding access to coverage, to pioneering new ways to pay for care that emphasized better quality and lower cost, to addressing many complex challenges like improving end-of-life care, expanding treatment for mental health and substance use disorder, and reducing long-standing health inequities," Ms. Puhy said.

Mr. Dreyfus joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in 2005 as executive vice president of healthcare services. He was named president and CEO in 2010.

"I feel honored to have been part of an organization that cares so deeply about its members and the community," Mr. Dreyfus said. "And I feel proud to have collaborated with others to broaden coverage and improve healthcare quality, equity and affordability."
