Macomb, Ill.-based McDonough District Hospital is moving on from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois as its employee insurance provider after the payer parted ways with Springfield Clinic, according to the McDonough County Voice.
The hospital decided to instead work with UnitedHealthcare, citing employees' reliance on Springfield Clinic for care.
"It's not a great time to be doing this, but we really have no choice," Bill Corbin, chief employee benefits officer, told the hospital's board Dec. 3, according to the Voice.
Brian Dietz, McDonough District Hospital president and CEO, told the Voice that he hopes the move encourages Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois to reup its contract with Springfield Clinic, saying the hospital would happily switch its coverage back if an agreement was sorted.
