Baptist Health System in Alabama, Viva Health to Offer Medicare Plan

Health insurer Viva Health and Baptist Health System — both based in Birmingham, Ala. — have partnered to offer a new Medicare Advantage HMO plan, Viva Medicare Me, according to a report from The Birmingham News.

The plan limits patients to 400 physicians and four Alabama hospitals in the Baptist network, which the health system and health insurer say allows them to deliver quality care at a lower cost, according to the report. The hospitals are Baptist Princeton in Birmingham, Citizen's Baptist in Talladega, Shelby Baptist in Alabaster and Walker Baptist in Jasper.

Viva COO Cardwell Feagin told the News the plan is the only one in the state involving a hospital system and health plan that don't share common ownership but are partnering to offer health insurance, according to the report.
