Arbitrators claim UnitedHealthcare owes Florida providers $4.7M

An arbitration filing in a petition against UnitedHealthcare by Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages Regional Hospital, both based in Florida, claims that the payer owes the providers $4.7 million.

A panel of three arbitrators decided on the payout amount in a Nov. 12 filing, which stemmed from allegedly denying treatment that physicians claimed to be medically necessary, according to the filing.

The initial filing alleged that UnitedHealthcare ignored physician recommendations, denied lifesaving reimbursement and downcoded claims, according to a news release shared with Becker's.

UnitedHealthcare did not respond to Becker's request for comment at the time of publication.

Update (Dec. 15): A spokesperson for Wolfe Pincavage, the legal firm representing the providers, told Becker's that UnitedHealthcare has since paid the full amount to both Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages Regional Hospital.
