Anthem partners with 401-bed hospital on Amazon Alexa skill

Anthem Blue Cross members can now use their Alexa-enabled smart devices to connect with care providers at Los Angeles-based Keck Hospital of USC.

The organizations partnered to create a skill for Amazon Alexa that allows users to find physicians and ask healthcare-related questions — such as checking symptoms, learning about an illness or receiving tips on healthy living — according to an Oct. 12 news release.

"We know that patients — not just Anthem members — are looking for quick and easy ways to connect with their care teams," said Anthony Nguyen, MD, chief clinical officer for Anthem. "We're excited we could build this tool to allow Keck Medicine patients to use Alexa-enabled devices to engage with their health care provider. These types of tools provide more access and ease for patients to engage with their care teams and make the appointments they need to live healthier lives. We are excited to build this tool for Keck Medicine, as well as for other providers across the country."

The voice-activated skill is available on any Alexa-enabled device, like the Amazon Echo, the Alexa smartphone app and Fire TV.
