1. Judge blocks $54B Anthem-Cigna deal
A U.S. District Court judge sided with the Justice Department and blocked Indianapolis-based Anthem's proposed $54 billion acquisition of Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna on grounds the combined insurer would harm consumers and impede innovation. 

2. Humana to lay off about 500 workers
Louisville, Ky.-based Humana will lay off about 500 workers by April 3 as it scales back its home health division's workforce. 

3. Centene Q4 revenue soars 89%, boosted by Health Net purchase
St. Louis-based Centene Corp. saw fourth quarter total revenues jump 89 percent in 2016 to $11.9 billion compared to the same period last year. Centene said the jump primarily reflects the insurer's $6.3 billion acquisition of Woodland Hills, Calif.-based Health Net.

4. BCBS of Tennessee is state's fastest growing Medicare Advantage carrier
Chattanooga-based BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is growing its Medicare Advantage membership quicker than other insurers in the state.

5. Humana reports 4 percent dip in revenue, postpones guidance
Louisville, Ky.-based Humana reported a fourth quarter consolidated revenue of $12.9 billion in 2016, falling 4 percent from $13.4 billion during the same period last year.

6. BCBS of Minnesota appoints former UnitedHealth startup CEO president of diversified business
Eagan, Minn.-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota named Tom Vanderheyden, former CEO of UnitedHealth Group subsidiary Harken Health, president of diversified business.

7. WellCare Health Plans doubles net income in 2016
Tampa, Fla.-based WellCare Health Plans reported a net income of $242.1 million for full-year 2016, a roughly 104 percent increase from its net income of $118.6 million last year.
