Aetna unveils genetic disease treatment provider network

Aetna has launched a provider network aiming to connect members with therapies for genetic diseases, dubbed the Gene-based, Cellular, and Other Innovative Therapies network.

The new network includes 75 providers and will provide gene therapy services for conditions including inherited retinal disease and spinal muscular atrophy, Aetna announced Oct. 27.

The network aims to treat patients with rare genetic diseases through FDA-approved therapies, as well as help manage the cost of treatment. Clinical teams will assist patients through their treatment, according to the announcement.
