The insurer has begun its hiring process, and plans to complete the hires by 2020. Aetna will also renovate 80,000 square feet of space in Wellesley, where it now leases 17,000 square feet.

Roughly 100 workers currently staff operations at the Wellesley office, which include some of the 250 new hires, an Aetna spokesperson told The Boston Globe. Aetna will also use a temporary office in Burlington, Mass., to house new hires amid the renovation.

The investment in Wellesley comes after Aetna passed up Boston for New York City as its future headquarters. However, the headquarters move was ultimately scrapped upon the announcement CVS Health will purchase the insurer for $69 billion.
