After Aetna's $37 billion purchase of Humana, executives said they plan to maintain or even increase employment in Louisville, Ky., according to a report in The Courier-Journal.
The companies announced Friday that Aetna will pay the equivalent of $230 in cash and Aetna stock for each Humana share. The acquisition will largely impact Louisville as Humana is the city's second-largest employer.
Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini and Humana CEO Bruce Broussard pledged that Louisville will become the new headquarters for Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and Tricare. Aetna's Medicare Advantage operations in Hartford, Conn., will shift and merge with Humana business in Louisville.
These shifted operations will potentially make room for more jobs in Louisville.
"Louisville will be an important site for us," said Mr. Bertolini. "We will at least maintain employment, if not increase it."
