ACA call center employees struggle with higher deductibles than American average

Amid this year's open enrollment period, call center workers who help Americans navigate ACA coverage options are struggling with their own coverage.

A report from the Communications Workers of America union claims that workers are finding it difficult to grapple with the costs of their own health insurance.

The workers are employed by Maximus, a third-party vendor contracted for call center work by the federal government.

Premiums on the base plan are nearly $1,000 more than what the average American worker pays for a similar plan. Similarly, the plan's deductible of $4,500 is $3,000 more than the American average, the report found.

“I find it absolutely appalling that we answer questions about insurance all day, every day, and we have a $4,500 deductible," one call center worker said in the report.
