Analysis: 63% of weekly social media mentions of health insurers are about Aetna

The five largest U.S. commercial health insurers — Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, Humana and UnitedHealth Group — were mentioned on social media and in publications 26,700 times during the last week of August, according to a talkwalker report.

For the report, talkwalker used its social analytics platform to track positive and negative mentions of the payers.

Here are three takeaways.

1. Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna received 63.1 percent of the five insurers’ mentions.

2. Louisville, Ky.-based Humana — the smallest of the top five commercial payers — has one of the most active Twitter accounts and highest member engagement on social media. 

3. Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealth, while the country’s largest private insurer, doesn’t reach as many members through social media as Aetna and Humana.
