5 Humana leaders join stock sale, increasing total cashout to $83M

Thirteen executives and board members from Louisville, Ky.-based Humana have now sold a combined 403,706 shares of company stock, raising the total value of stocks sold over the past few weeks to $83.1 million, according to the Courier-Journal.

In February, eight of the insurer's executives sold a combined 323,648 shares of stock for $66.4 million. The sale occurred a week after Humana and Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna mutually terminated their $37 billion merger agreement. Humana spokesperson Tom Noland told the Courier-Journal executives "had limited opportunities to engage in stock transactions for the last two years owing to the Aetna transaction." As a result, some executives began selling stock after the merger was called off.

Humana Executive Vice President and COO James Murray, who is retiring at the end of this month, sold an additional 31,151 shares Monday for $6.6 million. He also sold 119,000 shares for $24.4 million last month, making him the highest seller so far.

Here are the seven executives that recently cashed out their stock options in the insurer:

1. James Murray, senior vice president and COO, sold 150,022 shares for $31.1 million

2. Brian LeClaire, senior vice president and CIO, sold 31,865 shares for $6.5 million
