Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn., and UnitedHealthcare/Oxford Health Plans have reached an agreement after a more than two-month impasse, according to a Hartford Courant report.
Here are four things to know about the agreement.
1. The new contract replaces one that expired Aug. 1.
2. The hospital and the insurance company said the new agreement would, for the first time, include coverage for people with UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans, according to the Hartford Courant.
3. Of the new agreement, Stephen Farrell, CEO, UnitedHealthcare of New England, said, "We look forward to collaborating with Middlesex Hospital and its physicians to enhance our plan participants' health and wellness. With this renewed, expanded relationship, individuals, families and now our Medicare Advantage members now have access to this hospital and its physicians."
4. Officials have said the hospital and insurer had not been able to agree on financial aspects of the contract, essentially differing over how much revenue the hospital should get for each UnitedHealthcare/Oxford patient receiving care, according to the report.
