With less than two weeks of open enrollment left, approximately 3.6 million Americans, to date, have selected plans through the 2018 federal marketplace, according to CMS.
Here are four things to know about the status of signups.
1. In comparison to 2018 signups, more than 7.2 million individuals had enrolled in coverage at this point during open enrollment 2017, according to an analysis by innovation company Avalere.
2. By the end of open enrollment 2017, 9.2 million enrollees had signed up for coverage through the federal marketplace. A large surge of signups would need to take place before the Dec. 15 deadline to an achieve equivalent number, according to The Washington Post.
3. If the same number of enrollees — 1.6 million — that automatically renewed their coverage choose to do so again this year, roughly 4 million more consumers would have to enroll in marketplace coverage by Dec. 15 to reach the 9.2 million signups recorded last year.
4. Four million signups have never been recorded in the last two weeks of open enrollment since it began in fall 2013, The Washington Post reports.
