Patient escapes hospital through shot-out window: Police

A patient escaped a Maryland psychiatric hospital after an accomplice shot out the window and drove them away, police told ABC affiliate WMDE Aug. 2.

An unidentified individual approached Cambridge, Md.-based Eastern Shore Hospital Center, a state-run hospital, fired several gunshots into the window, kicked in the broken frame and helped the patient escape in a black vehicle, Cambridge Police Chief Justin Todd told the news outlet.

The patient, 19-year-old Darrin Jeter, was committed to the hospital after a May arrest for alleged assault on a law enforcement officer and other counts. Police later located Mr. Jeter in a Montgomery County, Maryland.

Police are still working to identify the alleged shooter. No injuries were reported at the scene, according to WMDE.
