Family complains of bugs, grime and dirt at Wisconsin Children's hospital

A Wisconsin family claims its daughter's hospital room was filled with grime, dirt and bed bugs, CBS affiliate WDJT reported April 8.

Erin Teske-Wolf took her 5-year-old daughter to Wauwatosa-based Children's Hospital of Wisconsin for surgery on April 5, and afterward they stayed in a room overnight. While there, Ms. Teske-Wolf claims she noticed black grime in the bathtub, floors and baseboards covered with dirt and dust, and a sticky substance on the bedside table.

In the morning, Ms. Teske-Wolf said she found little black bugs stuck to her shirt, sheets and the pullout bed. Two hospital employees collected handfuls of the bugs in a specimen jar and gave her new sheets after she complained. "Both said that they appear to be baby bedbugs, but that they did look dead," Ms. Teske-Wolf said.

The hospital called a local pest control service in for an inspection that day. They found no bed bugs dead or alive in the room, a hospital spokesperson told Becker's

"Children's is committed to providing clean and comforting spaces for our patients and their families," a hospital said in a statement shared with WDJT. "Our environmental services team will immediately address feedback when our standards are not being met. While a recent social post suggested bed bugs were present in a patient care room, an independent exterminator confirmed that no bed bugs were present the same day the concern was expressed."

The family said it is trying to find another exterminator to examine the bugs, according to the report.
