Patient shoots himself inside Kansas hospital

A patient reportedly smuggled a gun into the University of Kansas Health System St. Francis campus in Topeka on Dec. 14 and shot himself, according to WIBW-13 News.

Police told the publication they received a call about a shooting incident around 1:30 p.m. Dec. 14. Investigators said the unidentified patient allegedly brought the gun into the hospital in a duffle bag.

A police department spokesperson told WIBW-13 News the patient survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The health system did not comment to the publication on where the shooting took place inside the facility.
