Palmetto Health hospital cancels surgeries after severe storms damage facility

Officials said the roof of Columbia, S.C.-based Palmetto Health Baptist was severely damaged by recent severe weather March 19, causing the facility to cancel surgeries scheduled for the following day, according to The State.

In the hospital's March 20 statement, obtained by The State, officials said several operating rooms within the hospital experienced severe water intrusion and will be closed for repairs for about one week. Surgeries were set to resume March 21, and will be performed in the remaining operating rooms, according to the report.

"It's been a phenomenal response. From the first call that there was a problem, our team members were responsive and ready to do everything they could to help," Palmetto Health Baptist COO Greg Gattman said. "We wouldn't be able to offer surgery tomorrow without their hard work, commitment and dedication. I am so grateful."
