Mold forces closure of 4 patient rooms at UPMC hospital

UPMC McKeesport (Pa.) Hospital closed four patient rooms after mold was discovered during routine maintenance, according to a CBS Local news report.

The mold was found behind the walls of four hospital rooms on two adjoining floors. Crews immediately put up barriers to contain the mold.

UPMC said no patients were exposed to the mold, and they are unaware of any related illnesses.

The rooms will remain closed until the mold is removed and air quality tests are performed.

"As is routine, we immediately notified the state department of health. Safety is our top priority and our patients, staff and visitors can be assured that UPMC takes this issue seriously," a new release from UPMC stated.
