Medical College of Wisconsin expands psychiatry program to mothers

Milwaukee-based Medical College of Wisconsin will launch an initiative next month to aid pregnant women and new mothers suffering from postpartum depression and substance-abuse disorders, according to a Journal Sentinel report.

The Periscope Project, which will be offered in southeast Wisconsin, is funded through a three-year $1.275 million United Health Foundation grant — with $425,000 distributed each year — and a one-time $200,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

The state only has three perinatal psychiatrists, according to the report.
