Hawaii ambulance breaks down on way to call; patient dies at scene

An ambulance broke down in Hawaii while responding to a 911 call, and the patient died on the scene, reports KHON2 News.

It is unclear whether the ambulance breakdown contributed to the patient's death.

An EMS team in Nanakuli received a 911 call about a patient who was having trouble breathing Feb. 12. While traveling to the scene, the crew encountered mechanical problems with the ambulance.

They arrived at the scene 17 minutes after the call was placed and initiated life-saving protocols, but the patient died, a spokesperson for the EMS team told KHON2 News. The spokesperson also noted the local fire department arrived before EMS and began medical treatment.
