Patients at hospitals in Colorado and Utah wait in the emergency room the shortest amount of time, on average, before being seen by a physician, according to a ProPublica analysis.

ProPublica calculated each state's average ER wait time using data reported by hospitals to the federal government.

Here are the 15 states with shortest average ER wait times, according to the analysis.

Colorado — 14 minutes

Utah — 14

Montana — 15

South Dakota — 15

Wyoming — 16

Kansas — 17

Ohio — 17

Wisconsin — 17

Indiana — 18

Minnesota — 18

North Dakota — 18

Idaho — 19

Louisiana — 19
