Researchers at West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health found three drivers of patient satisfaction during a hospital stay.
The study, published in the American Journal of Medical Quality, analyzed more than 86,000 patient surveys across 12 hospitals using machine learning predictive models.
Researchers found nursing communication, physician communication and hospital environment were the three primary drivers of overall satisfaction, according to a Sept. 28 system news release. Patients who felt listened to and kept informed by their team, and who had a clean, restful room were more likely to rate their overall hospital experience as excellent. This remained true for patients at large medical centers and smaller community hospitals.
