Florida Hospital for Children Uses Disney to Boost Patient Satisfaction

Patient satisfaction at the Florida Hospital for Children in Orlando has risen significantly and is now among the best at children’s hospitals nationally after it turned to The Walt Disney Company in 2009 to turnaround its image, according to a News-Press report.

The hospital’s workers are “cast members,” and new visitors to the hospital are greeted by people in various Disney-themed outfits, the report said. Patient volumes are also up nearly 50 percent.

The Disney Institute is the healthcare consulting service that helped the Florida Hospital for Children, and it aims to improve staff morale and teach how to treat patients more as customers. According to the report, training costs range from $1,300 for a couple days of workshops to hundreds of thousands of dollars for yearlong consulting.

More than two dozen large and small U.S. hospitals have already signed contracts, the report said.
