New Orleans-based Ochsner Children’s has launched an advisory council made entirely up of pediatric patients.
Ochsner Children’s Kids’ Council members are ages 5 to 18 and represent a wide range of medical experiences, according to a Sept. 3 news release from Ochsner.
Council members will review and provide feedback on hospital practices, share their experiences and offer ideas to improve care for children and their families, the release said.
The council held its first meeting Aug. 19, where it approved an exterior signage project and received their first assignment, to answer what one change they would make to improve the hospital for kids.
“The experts on being kids are kids,” Beth Walker, CEO of Ochsner Children’s, said in the release. “The Kids’ Council gives us the opportunity to listen directly to our patients and learn from their experiences. Their ideas, creativity and honesty will help us make meaningful decisions that reflect what matters most to the children and families we serve.”
