The 25-question survey, called the Patient Care Experience Survey, asks patients about their experience and cultural preferences. Questions include, “Did you feel like you were treated with dignity?” and “Were your cultural preferences respected?”
In 2019, Yale University and two of the system’s hospitals began surveying psychiatric patients. Now that the survey is going national, the goal is to encourage mental health facilities to implement quality-based initiatives based on the patient experience reports.
The survey covers the intersection of four topics: treatment team relationship, education and empowerment, treatment effectiveness, and healing environment/nursing presence.
In 2025, hospitals can voluntarily share survey results with CMS, and mandatory reporting will follow, according to the Hartford Courant.
