10 resources patients want to see on hospital websites

The majority of patients — 75 percent — cited information on whether a provider accepts their insurance as an "extremely important" factor when selecting a care provider, according to a Kyruus report.

For the report, titled the "2017 Patient Access Journey Report," Kyruus tapped Wakefield Research to survey 1,000 patients, all of whom reported searching for a healthcare provider during the last two years. The respondents provided insight into how they searched for and selected providers.

Other factors patients cited as "extremely important" when selecting a provider included clinical expertise on their condition (53 percent), cost (47 percent) and reputation of the health system or hospital (46 percent).

Here are the top 10 online resources respondents said they wanted to see on hospital and health systems' websites.

1. Search by insurances accepted: 61 percent

2. Search by healthcare provider specialty: 56 percent

2. Patient reviews and testimonials: 56 percent

4. Healthcare provider quality scores: 53 percent

5. Healthcare providers based on distance from your home: 50 percent

5. Ability to view provider availability: 50 percent

7. Ability to view cost information for procedures: 42 percent

8. Search by healthcare provider name: 41 percent

9. Search by keyword such as "condition," "diagnosis" or "procedure": 36 percent

10. Healthcare providers' photographs: 36 percent
