University of Tennessee Medical Center (Knoxville). University of Tennessee Medical Center houses the only Level I trauma center in East Tennessee as well as the Advanced Orthopaedic Center. Blue Cross Blue Shield recognized the hospital’s superior care, designating the University of Tennessee Medical Center a Blue Distinction Center and Blue Distinction Center+ for knee and hip replacement. University of Tennessee Medical Center participated in The Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Project JOINTS (Joining Organizations In Tackling SSI) initiative, which aimed to spread evidence-based practices for surgical site infection prevention following hip and knee replacement surgery.
