Three notes:
1. Asim Makhdom, MD, the only orthopedic surgeon in the area who performs anterior total hip replacement, is expanding his practice to Olean General Hospital.
2. Dr. Makhdom is a member of Smethport, Pa.-based Foothills Medical Group and sees patients at Bradford (Pa). Regional Medical Center.
3. The anterior approach to total hip replacement surgery reduces patient recovery time from six months to one month.
“With an anterior hip or knee replacement, patients can walk using a walker or cane only two hours after surgery,” Dr. Makhdom said during a community breakfast in April. “Actually, even after two weeks post surgery, the patient can walk without the help of a walker or cane.”
