The technology is designed to shorten procedure times, reduce blood loss and scarring, and enable surgeons to access the spine without shifting the patient.
Orthopedic and spine surgeon Robert Brady, MD, used the robotic system to operate on a patient’s foraminal disc herniation at the L5-S1 segment of her spine.
The herniated disc was pressing on a nerve, causing severe pain down the patient’s right leg. The patient had been unable to relieve the pain through cortisone injections, medications or an epidural.
Six weeks after Dr. Brady operated on her, she was able to sit and drive as normal without pain in her leg.
