Franklin Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital to provide charitable joint replacement surgeries

Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream, N.Y., and Lenox Hill Hospital in New York will offer free hip and knee replacement surgeries in December for uninsured or underinsured patient who qualify, according to a Newsday report.

Giles R. Scuderi, MD, who focuses on adult reconstruction and sports medicine, will perform surgeries at Franklin Hospital. He has been offering the free service since 2011. Matthew Hepinstall, MD, of the Center for Joint Preservation and Reconstruction at Lenox Hill Hospital, has signed on to perform free surgeries there.

The number of operations that the surgeons and their teams will perform has not yet been determined. The joint replacements are being offered through Operation Walk USA, an independent medical humanitarian organization. Since 2010, Operation Walk USA has helped 492 patients.
