Doctors Hospital of Augusta (Ga.) became the first in its area to begin offering robotic-assisted total knee replacements, according to The Augusta Chronicle.
Orthopedic surgeon Mark Thigpen, MD, was among the first to perform the robotic-assisted procedure at Doctors Hospital. He replaced a patient's knee in February.
Surgeons guide the robotic arm to accurately position implants. The robot is used to improve alignment of the knee with the ankle and hip joints.
