Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital is the second hospital in the world to receive designation as a Center of Excellence in Women’s Integrated Surgical Health by Surgical Review Corp.
The accreditation involves a comprehensive, data-driven evaluation that measures a hospital and surgical team against nationally and internationally recognized standards, according to a March 12 system news release. It includes an on-site inspection and provides guidance on best practices.
Tampa General showed excellences across domains such as surgical volumes, facility infrastructure, standardized clinical pathways, robust patient education and continuous quality improvement. The recognition was achieved through the teamwork of the system’s cancer institute and women’s institute.
“A national recognition for gynecologic oncology speaks to the strength of our multidisciplinary teams in cancer and women’s care and affirms our focus on providing advanced academically driven care to women throughout the Tampa Bay region and beyond,” Thomas Rutherford, MD, deputy director of the TGH Cancer Institute and director of the division of gynecology and oncology at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, also in Tampa, said in the release.
