The contractor overseeing the project had also supervised construction projects at an elementary school that were found to be structurally inadequate. However, Grand Junction VA Medical Center Public Officer Paul Sweeney said the medical center’s engineers have performed informal reviews throughout construction and are satisfied with the results, according to the report.

The hospital plans to open the new floor to patients in the end of March.
